How “CAUGHT” was created

July 6, 2011

[Due to some glitch, my "CAUGHT" video is not showing up on my homepage (it's supposed to automatically) so I decided to do a blog about it.]

My recent video “Caught” was fun to make, and it has an interesting backstory to how it was created, so I thought i’d share it with you guys…

I first shot the scene with the old, Indian guy in my video over a month ago. Gerry Bednob plays the convenience store clerk (You might have seen him in 40-yr old Virgin, Zack and Miri make a porn, Walk Hard, and a gang of other movies.) I met him on the set of a movie I did with him called “Rock Jocks,” and I fell in love with his hilarious, raunchy personality and wanted to use him for something. So i wrote this “jacking off” joke based off of his character. After I shot the scene with him though, I wasn’t sure what to do with it…

At the same time, I also had this random clip of my dad in a Flintstones costume, which I shot over two months ago while I was back home in Houston. I originally shot this clip cause I found out Hollywood was doing another movie called Akira (A popular Japanese Anime) and they wanted to cast Zach Efron in it. So I said… Eff that S***!! if Hollywood’s gonna do that, I’m gonna do a remake of Flintstones and cast my Dad!!

But after i shot it I never used it, cuz i found out there wasn’t much buzz about the movie Akira anymore and decided it would be too similar to my other video “Asians aren’t cool enough.” So I just kinda had this clip of my dad in a flintstones costume sitting in my computer…

Now I have these two funny, individual clips and I had to figure out a way to combine them into one video without making it seem like I had two completely unrelated things that I threw together. This has happened on other occasions as well (See “Sex and Tutors” and “Girls are like M&M’s” for good examples).

After a long night of brainstorming/writing, I was able to connect both skits. So I shot the vlogging parts the next day, spent a few days editing, and “CAUGHT” was formed.

if you haven’t seen it yet, you can watch it below. If you have, well then… watch it again :)

Love u,
Kevin
